Things to do when visiting Chicago this winter

There are so many great things to do in Chicago during the winter. Whether you’re looking for family fun or a great place to take a date or significant other, below are some fun options to consider that are unique to our city.

Millenium Park Ice Skating

From November to March, depending on weather, the McCormick Tribune Ice Rink in Millennium Park provides a great venue for fun in the cold weather. Along with the beautiful view and atmosphere, skating is free to the public. If you need skates, there are skate rentals available for kids and adults of all sizes.

Brookfield Zoo

Despite what you may think, winter is one of the best times to visit the zoo. Brookfield Zoo has a number of amazing indoor exhibits and outdoor exhibits with animals that love the cold. In fact, the Chicago Zoological Society insists that many animals, including Lions, love the cold. However, if it ever gets too cold for them, they have the option to go inside into a heated area. The zoo also provides heated shuttle busses to help you get from exhibit to exhibit and anywhere else you’d like to go in the zoo.

Chicago Bears, Blackhawks, or Bulls Game

Cold weather doesn’t stop sports. If you’re in the Windy City during the winter, get out to enjoy a game. Chicago has a long and decorated history in sports and there are some great teams to see. The Blackhawks and Bulls both play out of the United Center, also known as the ‘Mad House on Madison”, and the Bears play at the iconic Soldier Field.

The Christkindlmarket

The Christkindlmarket has been a fun holiday tradition for over twenty years. With multiple locations throughout the city, the Daley Center location is a holiday favorite for families in the city and suburbs. The lighting of the Christmas is a fun night each year that brings people and families of all ages to come see and take pictures.

In addition to the tree, the market has many vendors that offer a wide range of unique pieces, including one’s that are handmade and can only be found at the market. The market also has many food vendors that provide German dishes. The smell of these wonderful foods creates an even better atmosphere that hits all senses.

With this brief list of activities to do in Chicago, we hope you’ll have a great winter and enjoy all the fun and cold weather activities the city has to offer.
